It is often said that advertising toward children under the age of five should not be allowed. Some people are opposed to this idea because it is up to people to make up their own decision, so baning is not necessary. However, I think we need this policy because children under five are not rational enough to make up their own decision. Also, parents have to spend too much money if advertising continues to lure children.
To begin with, children who are younger than five are not rational enough to make up their own decision. This fact will cause adviser to make reckless advertising which seduces children. Then, children who saw this advertising are likely to make a wrong decision. They just want to buy everything because they don't care about money. For example, I have a cousin who is 4 years old. Whenever he sees toy in advertising from television, he asks his mom to buy it for him. If his mom refuses to buy it, my cousin always cry to satisfy his needs. If government had banned this advertising, this event would not have been occurred.
In addition, because of this advertising, parents should spend a lot of money. Whenever their children beg them to buy some toys in advertising. Parents cannot refuse all the time which make them spend quite a lot of money. This can be a real burden for parents because they still need to spend a lot of money on other things. For instance, Seoul Nation University made survey in 2010 about economical burden of parents who have young children. 15% of participants said that they are hesitated to buy some toys for their children because it is too expensive. To alleviate this problem government should ban advertising toward young children.
In conclusion, we should not allow advertising toward children under five because children are not rational enough to make correct decision and it can be a burden for parents to buy advertised goods. There are some times that we should limit some freedom to achieve more things. |
