▶ Your Answer : I think that the present which really influenced me as a child was books. Being given the present of the first storybook in my age 5 was to make me as an avid reader and also a creative writer. Since then, I found reading books to be creatively stimulating and maintained the habit of reading at least 4 books a month throughout my life. In fact, reading books on various subjects helped me to develop my academic facilities and relieve my stress effectively.
Books in my life actually have had a very positive effect on my life. Most of all, from them I could learn the versatile use of vocabularies and logic in reading materials. By reading books and practicing or sometimes mimicing the invaluable phrases from my readings, I started to write my own pieces of novels and poems. Finally I won the great prise in writing contest when I was in high school. Also, I was so fascinated with novel expressions in books and other readings and its aesthetic effects that I double-majored English literature in college. Furthermore, developing the ability to understand a logic or purpose of a reading, I could excel in other academic subjects in the university.
Reading books also makes me relieve stress in a modest way and always calm my nerves. For instance, when I'm so stressed out studying difficult academic subjects such as economics or mathematics, I stop studying for a moment, take any books nearby and try to concentrate on the reading as soon as possible. In this way, just for a moment, I can be someone else such as a main character who has totally different cultural background from me, pull all my imagination and clear my head. This method is greatly beneficial for me because the break time with books makes me more creative and reminds me all the motivation and sensation I once had.
For these reasons, reading great novels and non-fictions has made me much happier since I got books as a present from my early on. Instead of indulging in watching televisions or playing video games, I learned how to appreciate the beauty of literature and understand the meanings of various contents. Consequently, I want to be a great professor and pass my love for books on to my future students, so that they also can get the benefit I had. (360 words)
