Some people claim that it is unfair to infringe people's freedom and dispute to policies or apply demos. Others believe that freedom sometimes must be regulated. Like the latter opinion, my theory is that freedom must not always be free. If there is a right to have freedom, there is also the right to control it. This means that if an individual is not responsible with the commitment he made according from the freedom which is given to him, there is every right to violate the freedom. Other than this reason, there are several more reasons why freedom can sometimes be disturbed.
First of all, many nations follow the law of deciding by majority. In this case, some opinions which few people support have to be ignored. Instead, more popular opinions need to be accepted and applied. The claims of minorities must not be totally disregarded but if it comes to making a decision for the whole community then there is no other choice but to accept the idea of the majority.
Secondly, freedom can also be infringed when it is promised to be infringed. There is a saying that in Rome, do what romans do. If you're a member of a society, you have the oblige to obey the laws that the society has established. For instance, when a secret needs to be kept, and especially if the secret is a significant one, one's freedom of speech needs to be violated. Also even though you hate someone badly and have a desire to torture him it is not a rational thing to do and right to do what your instincts tend to do. In this case, the freedom of act has to be suppressed.
In conclusion, there are some situations when freedom has to be encroached and it is an inevitable responsibility which follows for the price of freedom. Freedom is the will to be responsible to ourselves. To be responsible, some sort of regulation has to exist. |
