There is a controversy about whether we should read only books about real events. Some people say that only non-fiction books are helpful to us. However, in my point of view, it is not good to read only books about real things.
To begin with, reading books only about real events limits our imagination. One of important benefits of reading books is to develop our thinking. It is because fictions in books provide us with great opportunities to experience new things that we never knew. By having a variety of indirect experiences from books, we can greatly improve our ability of imaginative thinking. However, if we only read books of facts, it is impossible to broaden our range of thinking. For me, fiction books hold a great amount of possibility. When I am reading a novel, I can place myself in the story of the book and I feel like I am in center of the story. Because of this it gives me a great stimulation for my work. As an architectural designer, I often get my design inspiration from reading novels. Therefore, we need to pay attention to a as many kinds of genres of books as possible.
On top of that, reading fictions gives us great enjoyment. Many people read books as their hobbies in order to have fun or get refreshment. However, a non-fiction book is normally boring because it only deals with what really happened. As we are fond of experience something we never even imagined before, books about only real events can not give us fun. Moreover, if we are allowed to read only non-fiction books, most of us will lose interest of reading books. For example, many people enjoy reading comic books. What a comic book makes people fascinated with is the fact that the most of them contain fictional characters and stories. Therefore, If we pay attention to only non-fiction books, we will lose a great deal of enjoyment.
To sum up, a fiction gives us a lot of advantages. It not only improves our thinking, but also gives us a great joy of our lives. In this regard, I firmly believe that we should read as many genres of books as possible. |
