There might be some people who believe that getting advice from older adults is better than from peers. However, I personally disagree with the above idea for two subsequent reasons. First, peers can understand contemporary problems much better than the old. Second, people can get advice more easily from peers.
To begin with, contemporary problems can be discussed well with peers. Generally speaking, peers are someone who has lived in the same period, so they recognize the social and cultural circumstances much better than the old. With this basement, they can give more appropriate advice. Let me bring up my personal story as an example. A few weeks ago, I needed advice about my career after graduating from university. I visited my grandmother to ask about this problem, but she even could not understand my major, computer. Furthermore, she recommended only very old-fashioned jobs. After getting out of her house, I immediately met my friend, peer, Suzy and required some advice. Then, she gave me information about a website that helps to find out the suitable jobs. Thanks for her advice, I was able to find useful lists related to my future career.
On top of that, peers are more contactable than older adults. In general, peers are usually people like friends that can get into touch easily anywhere and anytime. For example, people can meet them at schools and workplaces or communicate with them by calling or text messages. However, there are several obstacles to interact with old adults. For instance, when I went to the grandmother’s house, it took almost one and a half hours. She was so old that it was not proper to get advice on the phone. On the contrary, I could make an appointment to meet Suzy in 5 minutes by phone call. Moreover, we lived in the same village and studied in the same university that we could meet whenever we wanted. Without a peer, Suzy, I would have had more difficulty finding a good adviser.
In conclusion, peers can understand contemporary situations much better. Furthermore, people can meet and interact with peers more comfortably. In this regard, I firmly think that getting advice from peers is much better than getting advice from old adults. |
