In this rapidly changing world, it is becoming more difficult to determine the sources of news and information. A lot of controversy exists over whether news media provide people with credible information or not. Although many providers such as newspaper, TV program, and media companies pretend to be unbiased and accurate, I see the distortions in their coverage and reporting. This is because every information provider has its own stakes and tries to make story look more sensational in order to gain viewer popularity

To start with, the source of news and information is untrustworthy since it is related to its own stakeholder. That is, major corporations own media company and are obviously interested in depicting the reality and current events in a way favorable to their own interests. This is especially true when a company or certain political party that provider supports is involved in a story. Analyst report of security market is one of the best examples that demonstrates this point. Many analysts have to suggest his opinion of proper stock price in his report. However, there are many lucrative connections between analyst and the company stakeholder, so it is difficult to evaluate the proper price of company stock and likely to overvalue them. So, targeting stock price offered by analyst is not reliable and as a result, the individual investors who believe the analyst information are likely to lose their money. This plainly highlights how impartial and unbiased the information providers are.(반어법으로 쓰신건가요??)
Not only that, the news media is unreliable since they make the story more sensational in order to make a lot of money. They tend to reveal untrustworthy information or inaccurate news quickly since it allows them to acquire more viewers so that they can maximize profits. To illustrate this point, one news company had to apologize to viewers for its exaggerated report on kimchi. The information they provide was that kimchi produced by corporations was very unhealthy and filthy. However the truth was that only a small number of company was included in. This events led to many kimchi business had to close down their business. As this illustrates, the flood of information doesn't guarantee their quality, often with disastrous results.
To summarize, I definitely believe that we should consider the quality of news since they have a tendency to be distorted. This is because providers of news or information have its own interest and are drawn in the allure of making the story sensational. On the whole, it would be wise for people who follow the information of news to be willing to ponder who is telling them as well as what they are being told. |
