It is often said that playing sports teaches people vital lessons in life. Even though the jury is still out, I strongly believe that sports allow people to learn lots of crucial lessons in life. To start with, playing sports is beneficial in terms of improving one's health. Moreover, people can readily socialize by playing sports.
To begin with, people can improve their health by playing sports. It is obvious that old habits die hard. Therefore, if a child starts to play sports when he is young, he is most likely to play sports in his whole life. Thus, he can maintain his health in his entire life. According to the research recently released by Harvard University, the possibility of getting liver cancer of people who have played sports since they were young is five times less for those who have not played sports. This implies that there exists a strong correlation between sports and health. Playing sports is a key to maintain one's health.
Additionally, playing sports make people improve their social skills. Individuals usually play sports with someone. By doing so, people can learn lots of valuable lessons in their life such as being responsible for little things and how to respect and appreciate differences between people. These things are not the same as something they can learn from the text book. Thus, one can improve social skills by playing sports. Take the case of my sister Julie for illustration. When she was young, she was such a spoiled child. She did have some bad attitudes such as selfishness, laziness and did as she pleased. However once she joined a baseball club in her school, she started to change. When she first joined her team, she was having a hard time due to the fact that she did not have social skills. However, in order to adjust her situation, she tried to have good relationship with her friends and tried to do some hard tasks that nobody wanted to do. Thanks to this experience, she learned endurance. Plus, she learned how to cooperate with her peers. Finally she became more socialized person and she was even selected the leader of her team by her teammates.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly believe that playing sports is essential for people's life. The reasons are not only individuals can improve their health but also people can enhance their social skills with great ease.
