As our society has developed much, academic requirement for students has increased. Consequently, high school students are supposed to learn more subjects compared to the previous generations, which brought controversy about whether they have to study various fields for a wide range of knowledge or focus on what they are interested for deeper one. I strongly believe that high school students should have their chance to learn according to their intention. It is not only because students can be more specialized in a certain field, but also because it can enhance the quality of classes.
First of all, students can benefit from choosing what they like to study, because they can boost their skill on the fields which they decided to study. One of the major purposes of high school education is to get students to prepare for studying in universities. As they have to choose what to major in colleges, it will be very helpful and efficient for them to study subjects related to their future majors in advance. For example, in high school, I studied economics which became my major in college later. It was very useful, because I could learn the principal concepts of the academy and could get used to many jargons before I enter a college.
In addition, the quality of education can enhance by letting students choose the subjects as their tastes. It is more likely that students are interested in classes when they make a choice for subjects than merely forcing them to study all necessary subjects. Therefore, students can concentrate on the class, and show the aggressiveness. It makes teachers enthusiastic about the classes and well prepared, which are directly related to the quality of classes. To illustrate, recent study in Korea have indicated that students of classes which allow them to study voluntarily tend to outpace students in compulsory classes.
All in all, high school students should be allowed to select subjects which they study, as it helps students to be specialized in certain fields as well as teachers to create more efficient classes. Given that those two strong points, I firmly argue that high school students right for subject decision are more secured.
