The statement "A school should invest in purchasing computers for students rather than books for the libray" is controversial. Obviously, there would be some students who prefer text books than computers. Instead, considering the computer's practical uniqueness and cost-effective characteristics, schools should invest in purchasing computers for students.
To begin with, computers include much more practicial benefits that students can use. With the rapid development of internet recently, internet's second name is called "the square of information". More and more users of internet are putting up information about everything. From comments about one's shoes to what Kangaroo's eat, the diversity of ideas is wide. On the other hand, if students are to purchase text books, the range of information they can earn is restricted since books talk about limited information about few topics. On top of that, if students have questions or statements that are hard to understand, there is hardly any way to solve their problems but to go ask professors, which is tiresome. However, computers allow students to share opinions and thus student's questions can be easily taken care of. In this sense, schools should support in purchasing computers for students since computers provide more handy benefits.
Another preferable factor of computers is that it's significantly cost-effective. Many people might wonder over this issue since computers are usually more expensive than books. Nonetheless, we have to admit that one single computer performs the same as hundreds of books. A university consists of numerous amount of majors and it is no doubt that every one of them includes at least one text book. In order to cover all these topics, schools have to buy tons of text books which is extravagant. Within this aspect, investing on computers is comparatively ideal due to it's cost-effectiveness.
Text books and computers both have their sole characteristics that are helpful to students. However, when schools have to decide which to invest on, computers should be selected for the sake of student's practical aid and computer's cost-effectiveness. Maybe this is why schools these days have digital libraries that are based on many computers. |
