Many people think that their patterns of eating have nothing to do with advertisements. However, I agree to the statement that advertising is main cause of unhealthy eating habits, for two reasons. First, advertisements encourage people to eat even when it is unnecessary. Also, commercials reveal only the beneficial side of its product.
To begin with, advertising promotes people to eat more than their usual daily basis. Since commercials have the purpose of selling and making profits, it is inevitable for them to attract people with products that look delicious. Introduced food which looks tasty in advertisements infuses people to buy and eat them. Even though people don’t have any plans to purchase products in the first place, commercials trigger them to buy. This kind of process makes people to buy unnecessary things and encourage them to have unhealthy eating habits. For example, my younger brother started to have a bad habit to eat late because of numerous advertisements that cause him to ingest. The effects of commercials eventually concluded obesity and unhealthy eating patterns to my brother. Also, companies don’t tend to consider consumer’s conditions whether it will be healthy or not due to their own benefits. Therefore, it is obvious that advertising is the main cause of unhealthy eating habits.
In addition, commercials highlight only positive aspects of its products. Companies provide information that appeals healthiness and hide side-effects to customers. For instance, in a certain company, they advertise that their products, hamburgers, are made with vegetable fat, which are not harmful. However, the fact is, the products are just less harmful, not healthy at all, and people have tendency to believe that they are actually good for health. Consumers are being brainwashed by advertisements and lose their ability to have critical thinking. Thus, advertising is the main reason of people having unhealthy eating habits.
To conclude, I believe that commercials are the major factor that gives rise to unhealthy eating patterns among people. Advertisements encourage people to eat even unnecessarily, and emphasize only the good parts of the products, not detrimental aspects. People should have a critical mind to choose the best and healthy products to maintain their well-being diet, and not be affected by commercials too much.
