There is an old saying, “birds of a feather flock together.” It seems that people tend to want similar person to themselves as their friends. However, two people who have different personalities can be great friends for the following two reasons: they can learn new activities or thoughts from each other. Also, people can learn important values from the said friendships.
To begin with, two people with the different interests can be very helpful to one another because they see different characteristics from each other. One may find a new hobby or an unexpected interest due to various activities that one share with his or her friends. For example, when I was in college, I was a quite girl who loved indoor activities. One day, I met an outgoing friend. At first, I was overwhelmed by her characteristic because she was so energetic and powerful all the time. I thought we could never be friends. However, I had a chance to go skiing with her. It was my first time skiing and then I was amused by the outdoor activity. Since then, my hobby is skiing and I became an outgoing person. If it was not for her, I would have never realized that I enjoy the outdoor activities.
In addition, since spending time with different person from oneself is tough, one can learn important values such as sense of responsibility and understanding. Undergoing the unwanted situation will help one to learn how to deal with the problems or how to negotiate with other people. To illustrate, when I was in high school, I was a chairperson. I had to deal with many problems with many different people. Especially, it was not easy to become friends with the people who have a different personality with mine. I did not want to make any trouble, so I had to be patience with them. During the year, I learned how to negotiate and compromise with others. It was valuable lesson to me.
To conclude, different people can be good friends. This is because one can experience various activities that one never had before. Furthermore, various experiences make one know about oneself. Moreover, one can learn important values, especially, responsibility and patience. |
