In the lecture, the speaker cast doubts on the point in the reading passage that professors in the university have to concentrate more on their research than teaching.
First, in the reading passage, the writer mentions that more publications which are the results of professors' research have a positive effect on the finance of the university. Meanwhile, the speaker says that, contrary to the reading passage, the object / goal of a university is to teach student, not to earn more money.
Secondly, it is claimed in the reading that when professors in the university can conduct their research more, there is a possiblity of getting reputation of the university. This can give it an opportunity to be supported by federal government and private organizations, which can stimulate the professors to focus on their more research. In contrast, the lecturer argues that the fact the professors do not focus on teaching but just doing research can play a negative role in the reputation of university. He suggests since people want to be learn well, they are reluctant to enrol the school.
Finally, according to the reading, more research the professors conduct, the more knowledge students can get from their professors. However, the speaker asserts that the burden of doing more research causes the professors to get stressed, which is finally harmful to students' learning.
