There is an apparent preference between teacher and friend when students ask some tips for their problems. Some maintain that teachers are more reliable mentor while others say that friends are easier to talk about their private problem. From my personal perspective, I am more inclined to the former rather than the latter. To me, it boils down to various and influent information and knowledge; stronger will to help out.
To begin with, many teachers have more reliable information and diverse knowledge. This is because not only they are experts in their respective fields but also they have kept learning method to help students more efficiently. From my personal experience, when I was in high school, I was totally frustrated with my terrible math grade. Even though I tried to almost all kinds of endeavor, my grades were always same. At that time, my math teacher gave wonderful tips which I never knew about such as the method to memorize each formula. After repetitive counsel with him, my math grade was becoming to increase little by little. Finally, in the end of the semester, I was able to get dream score. My teacher could make a genius in math. I do not think I could get the wonderful score without teacher's help.
In addition to more reliable knowledge, teachers are always willing to help students. In Korea since very long time ago, teachers are considered as another parent. If students let their mind opened and try to talk to their teachers about their problems, they will be able to get enough satisfaction because they have same mind and will to help students with parents. Teachers are the best supporter for students. Even if friends are the closest person to students, they are also suffering from their own problems. Therefore, there is no more enough room in their mind and willingness to help a friend than a teacher who is already prepared for giving a hand.
In conclusion just talking to friends about own problems is sort of time consuming if a student wants more effective advice. Of course they might be able to give words of comfort to some extent. However, teachers can give the strongest solution to students’ problem with their diverse knowledge and strong willingness. |
