As this society has been developed since the Industrial Revolution, there are many technologies including manufacturing television program. In this situation, there is an argument abouth whether it is better for people to learn more through watching television than through reading books, or not. Some might say reading books can give more information to people in that books are originally source of all information in the world. Nevertheless, I think watching television could supply people with more knowlege with reasons below.
Firstly, television has various programs treating wide subjects. That means people who enjoy watching television couldnt' help encountering diverse information, whereas people reading books have only information of one subject they have attention to. To be more specific, according to a experiment, executed by department of media in Kwred National University, with two group: one was watching television, and the other was reading books during same amount of time, it indicated that more people in the former group could get more and diverse information than in the letter group. As this survey proves, television could give more knowlege to people through their various programs having different subjects rather than reading books.
Secondly, television can convey more information to people during short time than books. This is because television shows a scene with compressed contents. For example, one person would read a book and watch a scene with same content of the book, a fiction. Then, it would take more time to read a book of same content than to watch television since a scene of television could include contents of several lines of books to merely a scene involving a character's impression and feeling. That is, television programs could show compressed contents to people.
To sum up, people can more information by watching television than by reading books |
