I cannot totally agree speaker`s suggestion. The speaker asserts that all-rounded knowledge have more advantages than specific knowledge. In some sense we could recognize that it is more useful to have a broad knowledge than taking a detailed knowledge. Only by focusing on the advantage of all-rounded knowledge, however, the speaker ignores the importance of specialized knowledge in context of, technology fields and professional career.
Of course, in some context, studying broadly is more beneficial than acquiring specific awareness. When it comes to a certain academic fields requiring ability to consider interdisciplinary knowledge, a broad knowledge from academic subjects would be more necessary. For instance, S. Zizek who is a world-famous philosopher and critic could caustic criticize overall of culture and society by his broad and interdisciplinary knowledge from studying history, sociology, philosophy, politics and even science. It indicates that a broad knowledge from academic subjects would be more useful than specific knowledge.
Nevertheless, it means that everyone should not acquire detailed knowledge but study broadly. With respect to science technology fields, having a specific and specialized knowledge is better to have a wide knowledge from academic subjects. For instance, Eienstein well-known physicist design theory of relativity could progress his physics study by inquiring a specific area of physics which is related with his interest. It would not only an example. Many scientist have been taking a doctor`s degree by specific inquiring. It reveals that specific and deepen awareness is more necessary than just broad knowledge in context of science technology fields.
Furthermore, it is better to study specific knowledge than having a wide awareness in another context. As long as who want to have a job that requires a specific and professionalized knowledge, having a detailed knowledge is not an option for them is essential. For example, to be an accountant, it is a necessary to study about related professionalized accounting knowledge such as accounting skill, commercial laws and so on. It may be not only example to reveal the significance of having a specific knowledge within professional occupational group. It indicates that if anyone wants to be a type of specialist, it is require that they study specific-oriented knowledge rather than have a broad knowledge.
To sum, despite of advantages of broad knowledge, the problems of technology fields and professional works tell us that it is always more beneficial to have a broad knowledge than to study specific awareness. Thus, I cannot agree the speaker`s assertion. Only by ignoring the importance of technology fields and professional works could one conclude that having a broad knowledge is much better than studying a specific knowledge. |
