▶ Your Answer :
There are two types of friends, some are similar to us and the others are different from us. Through my experience, those who are similar to us make us feel easy, sharing same ideas and admitting each other. However, we can more learn on life through those who are different from us, because we can broaden our perspectives to the world, and acknowledge something, such as new genre of music or movies.
To start with, the first reason, that I prefer to meet friends who are different from us, is that we can expand our view or outlook. To be specific, when we discuss on political or social issues, we can learn more and more because they have perspectives that I cannot consider. For example, when I took a class in the university, introduction to social-science, I discussed on abolishing death penalty. I had a stance on agreeing to abolish it, but my friend did not agree it. Through discussion, I can understand his perspective and flaws of my logics, so it is important opportunity to expand my knowledge.
Not only that, through hanging out with friends who have different life styles or hobbies, I can encounter new things. Learning new things is quite interesting. For instance, I have a friend whose hobby was horse-riding. At that time, it was not familiar with me, but I went to that place several times to ride and tried it. I felt that it was quite exciting, and then have frequently visited to ride. Even if I did not hang out with my friend, who was riding, I might not have an opportunity to learn it.
In summary, we need friends who have diverse thoughts and ideas, or life style, because it should improve your knowledge or ability, and be one opportunity to learn new thing.
