120. Decisions can be made quickly, or they can be made after careful thought. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The decisions that people make quickly are always wrong. Use reasons and specific examples to support your answer.
Some people make decisions rather carefully when they face a complicated situation that requires decision. Such careful decisions may take days, months, or even years of consideration. However it is wrong to assume that quick decisions, as opposed to careful decision, are always wrong. For one thing, we are living in a world that requires decisiveness, and then quick decision accompanies comparative advantage.
There are situations that require quick decisions. For example, football team manager can not wait hours to decide what kind of static to employ. He has to make quick and prudent decisions to change the phase of the game. May be such ability to read the game and find out appropriate static to employ is the best quality required for good manager.
People who make quick decisions usually have comparative advantages over the people who hesitate. No matter whether the decision is prudent or not, people will lose chance when it is made after lag of time. Think of an example of a business firm that started off earlier compared to other firms. Such firm may have gained know-how how to deal with the business, and may have built up entry barrier that prevents other firms from entering into the business. Such barrier is hard to break once it is built. Therefore I can say that the old saying “the early bird catches the worms” still rings true.
As a matter of fact, people may lose interest when they are being too prudent and careful. This is because every decision has its advantage and disadvantage. Too careful people are usually too obsessed with the disadvantage side. Thus the thought of danger may sometimes prevent them from performing an action. It takes courage and guts to achieve something. Although it may sound a bit awkward, quick and hasty decisions stir up people to achieve something as the old saying goes “Well begun half done”.
It is true that prudency is a characteristic that is required for smart people. However this is not the case in every situation. Some times people have to be decisive because the situation they face, or to pre-empt the advantage as a forerunner. I anticipate that people who knows how to make decision quickly and prudently will succeed in this rapidly changing world.
