I disagree with the statement that there are nothing that individuals can do, so environmental issues should be in charged of government. There are many moves or campaigns which are shown on TV or posted in public buildings that encourage people to do basic things which are helpful to environment. In this regard, there are many elementary things that people can do. First, indivisuals can prevent air pollution by using public transportation. Second, they can make less soil pollution by not using short-term products.
To begin with, people can preserve energy by using public transportation. Petrolleum is the main resource to drive the car, but when petrolleum is used, they make CO2 and sulfur dioxide as byproducts. This can pollute air and this can be reason of acid rain. By more using public transportation such as bus or subway, we can make less pollution. According to research from Korea Environment Department, after they made the 'the day of no cars' and made public transportation free of charge on the day, every the day of 'no cars' has emitted 20% less CO2 gas and sulfur dioxide.
In addition, soil pollution can be prevented from not using products made for once. These products are usually made of alluminium or plastic which are take a lot of time to be dicomposed. This can pollute the soil and make several toxic that are detrimental to people. For example, it was reported that plastic water bottles was the main reason of soil pollution. This was because people bought about millions of plastic bottles of water every year. So in America, there was a movement to use tap water instead of using plastic water bottle. After the action, the percentage of using bottle water has been decreased sharply.
To sum up, indivisuals endeavor can make a huge change as well as the government does. By using public transportation and not using products made for once, the state of environment can be upgraded strikingly. There is a common saying that 10 people make a one bowl of meal. Cooperation of indivisuals can contribute to the preservation of environment. |
