The most important role of teacher is to transfer valuable fact to the students. In this regard, I agree that teachers should not deliver their personal point of thinking to students in the classroom. Also, Teachers shouldn't do that because students can't distinguish truth and personal view of teachers. And teachers can often make mistakes when they give information including their opinions to the students.
To begin with, students often can't tell knowledge from teacher's viewpoint. As student, students think resources and information teachers give are all truth. However, this can lead students to have same viewpoint of the teachers. For example, I attended a sociology class in university. The professor of the lecture was a member of liberal party. During the class, he often mentioned about the political issue and he asserted his own opinion to the students. After class, we had a vote for new politician and I realized that most of the students in the class voted for liberal party.
In addition, the ideas which the teachers give to students can be misleaded. And if the students accept the information without any doubt, they would have wrong knowledge. For example, I had zoology class in university. The professor of the class said that according to his research, camouflage only occurs in the relationship between predators and preys and he condemned the foundings of his rival. However, I found the fact that the camouflage can be happened between the same species from internet article. Without external information, I could have known the wrong information.
To sum up, I think that teachers should not teach their social or political opinions to students in the classroom. This is because students can accept their idea 100% without any question, and teachers can make mistakes. |
