It is better for government spend their fund on the exploration of outer space than on earthly matters. Agree? Disagree? |
It is really miserable for us to watch news that many people are dying from starvation on one side of the world, whereas scientists celebrate themselves for succeeding in landing on Mars and opening a new stage to satisfy our curisosity of whether there were living creatures in Mars. It is of course pleasant for us to discover that there might be living creatures in other planets. However, I doubt that space exploration is worth abandoning our pending problems such as energy depletion, famine, global warming and so on. I think we have far more things to be done quickly than space exploration.
First, space exploration cost too much. That is, we can convert the amount of money to more useful and humanitarian activities. For example, it is said that NASA spend billions of dollars on research in space. However, it is well-known fact that just one dollar can feed one African people for several days. What good is the space exploration when such people are dying from illness and starvation? We really need to re-think the problems. Is the space exploration is worth igonring many srarving people?
Second, we haven't seen any significant economic benefits through space exploration. For example, NASA has spent so much money on it. However, it is never known that how much they actually gained through the exploration, whether it is potential or not other than meeting the scientists need and making a huge headline in a paper. In other words, we are investing huge amount of money in invisible, uncertaion future. Even people favorable to space exploration say that they are not sure that what it will bring to us in the near future. However, if we spend the money on research on development of renewable resources, we will see the results right after the plan was executed. As you know, many countires are making efforts to exploit renewable energy resources such as wind turbines, tidal waves and geothermal power plants. However, they are still struggling because of the shortage of long-term fund, even though they know the serious circumstances of fossil fuel supply. In addition, global warming is getting more serious. Considering all, it is unresonable that we continue to stick to intangible and quixotic space exploration.
To sum up, look at a morning news paper and you will notice how many problems have to be resolved and how many people are in poverty and need. Therefore, it is more resonable and wise for us to take care of the urgent earthly matter than adhere to visionary space exploration. |
