Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People learn more by watching television than reading books |
In the modern society, it is widely controversial whether television is better medium to educate people rather that does the book. I actually believe this statement that the television is the better material to give people knowledge. This is because the television allows people to see the global events quickly and to have the better education system.
Most of all, televesion allows people to see the world wide events. Although one might say that the book also lets views to read about the global events, it's no doubt that television carries the world wide events more efficiently and quickly. Since the speed is one of the signifant factors of the modern world, television is the better medium to educate people. Anyone who willing to watch the global events can turn the television and see the happenings of the world simultaneoulsy in every where. However, it takes months or weeks to publicize the book. For example, when I was 5th grade, in 2001, I heard about the 9/11 terror. I saw the airplane crashed into the twin towers. I could see what was going at the same time the terror actually occured because mass media sent the scenes to all worlds through television broadcast. Certanily, television allowed me to have the vivid picture of the 9/11 terror. From the experience, I was convinced that the television allows one to have the clear picture of the given information fastly.
In addition, people in the television are alive. They appear in the tv channel to talk and sometimes educate the viewers. Besides, the television has the speical programm that educates teenagers in the school works or documentary channel. Those programms give the students and viewers live experience of education. While students study through books, they do not have anyone to ask the questions that they really don't know. However, television viewers can ask the question to the teachers in the programm through telephone or internet. Therefore, the television provides people the better education system. For example, when I was in the middle school, I had difficulty studying alone through books. Then my friend gave me the informatioin of EBS(Education Broadway Station). Since then I have studied my school works through watching the tv programm of EBS. Also, I could ask the questions to the teachers in the programm through phone. Furthermore, I could feel that I was actually taught by the mentor just beside me. From the experience, I learned that television offers one the live oppurtunity to have the better education system.
To sum up, I strongly support the point that television is the better medium to educate people than does the books. This is because the televisn allows one to have the vivid picture of the world wide events quickly and to receive the live education system. |
