It is a debatable argument whether a city should try to preserve historical buildings or not. Some people may claim that it is better to forfeit the historical sites for modern structures, since they no longer fit to “modernized” cities. On the other hand, I think cities should try to preserve historical regions since they provide educational sources, and they can attract tourists. Moreover, razing over these buildings may cause severe air pollution.
Cities should try their best to save as much historical regions as possible because they are great educational sources for people for all ages. Most historical places contain the thoughts and the spirits of our ancestors. Therefore, by preserving historical buildings many people can visit these buildings and learn. The fact that people have an access to the “visual sources” supports the reason why cities should keep the historical regions untouched. For example, when I was a high school student, my teacher usually took me over to historical places related to the classes. As a result, I easily understood about the history classes and became very learned in the history.
Furthermore, cities can attract many tourists. There are several of historical buildings such as churches. Every year many tourists travel all around the world, and most places that attract them are historical regions. From my experience, when I traveled in Europe with my family, 80% of regions that we visited were historical places, such as the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris and the Coliseum in Rome. Moreover, we could see numerous tourists who also visited there. At this example demonstrates, we will see that many tourists still love to visit historical regions, as a result, cities can also expect to earn foreign currency from the tourists.
Moreover, destroying buildings causes severe pollution. Once the construction starts to take place, and replace historical buildings with modern buildings, the potential side effects are unbearable. Heavy vehicles for the construction site will not only make dust, but they also emit carbon dioxide. As a result to that, many people will suffer respiratory diseases. For instance, my grandmother has still had chronic respiratory disease since he first suffered 10 years ago, at that time her neighbor was under construction. In this respect, cities should consider the construction in all aspects.
All in all, I agree with the statement that cities should try to preserve historical buildings. As I mentioned above, by preserving historical regions cities can use them as tourist attractions as well as good educational sources. In addition, destroying buildings will cause severe air pollution. Now, it is time for us to save our historical buildings. |
