Schools are the only places to receive true education |
Education has always been regarded highly througout the years due to its importance on one's life and the society. Some people might argue that schools are the only places to receive true education. I, however, personally disagree with the idea for the following reasons. School materials are often out of date and education continues on after college. To begin with, students are often taught by old text books that has been studied many years ago. Of course, text books are made by severe care and study from experts in a particular field. However, once the material has been made, it rarely changes for years. Accordingly, some facts in text books do not match with the things are continuously changing today. For example, astrology text materials written and printed 20 years ago are still being taught to students in class. However, after those books have been published in society, new researches have been observed that made previous studyings reveal as untrue. As for Pluto, once known as one of the planets in a solar system, is no longer regarded as the solar system planet due to its certain features that scientists recently found out from updated pictures sent from a satellite. Despite this fact, teachers in school still teach students with old information from books that are obviously false. Hence, because of basing on old researched materials, school education can not be true education.
What is more, education continues on after college. Generally, people seek for knowledge in all ages to improve the quality of life and to meet their satisfaction in certain fields. Accordingly, it is not hard to find people who continuously do research for the better need. Therefore, even after the graduation from school, people study and the knowledge is passed to others in society. Trainings for new employees at Samsung, the biggest electronic company in Korea, is a case in point. Every year when new people are employed, the company gives one year of training to them to catch up with the company's system and learn know-hows to work more efficiently. The training is based on a long-term investigation that the senior experts at Samsung had made from the long experience of working at the company. Once the new employers learn the useful knowledge, they put those into practice while at work. Therefore, it is no wonder that true education is taught not only in school, but time after that.
To conclude, even though schools teach a wealth of knowledge and information to educate people, true education can not be taught from the school only. First, the text books are often found as old information and education lasts long. Therefore, I strongly do not believe that schools are the only places for gaining true education. |
