As a student who is attending a foreign language high school which consists of many hard working students, I have seen numerous various ways of studying. Not one of my friends has the same style as myself when it comes to studying. Some of my classmates prefer to get help by attending private lessons or hiring a tutor. However, I prefer to study all by myself. I am able to keep my own pace, try different ways and learn a greater lesson in life.
I believe that the most essential point when studying is understanding the contents. By that I mean
we have to procede slowly if needed. Some people tend to focus only on how much you get done rather than how much you understand. When you attend a class and get lectured by the teachers, it is harder for you to keep your own pace. You may end up being dragged by other people. If you study by yourself, you can alter the speed of your studies.
I love to try out different ways when studying. Some of them are very new and extraordinary. If I had a tutor, I would not have thought about exploring different ways. By reading books, making my own notebook, creating video clips and power point presentations to organize the facts, I am able to learn and experience more than I would have if I studied with a teacher.
The best feature of self-studying is that you can grow up to be an independent adult. My friend who had several tutors and lessons to attend to always seemed to worry about her works. She did not know how to handle even trivial chores. If you always get help from a teacher, it is most likely that you will forget how to study by yourself and consequently cannot detach yourself from private lectures. This will affect not only your studying habits but also your everyday life as welll.
Every students in Korea whether their families are extremely wealthy or just able to make the ends meet , would have considered learning from a teacher. Whether it is just out of habit, or due to lack of understanding skills is not as important as the fact that students should be able to work on their own. It will bring back positive effects on their lives, and possibly help them become a self-controlled person.
If truly necessary it is fine to get a helping hand, however, we should never rely upon the teachers to do all the hard works.
