Movie tell a lot about a country |
If your friend who came from other country asks you how to learn about your country, what would you do? I would like to recommend her to see a movie such as 'JSA' which is a fiction story but reflects Korean history. What I want to say is movies really tell us a lot about a country.
First of all, movies contain many views of the places which they are made. While watching movies, we can notice where people live, how the nature looks like, what people eat and so on. For example, there is a Korean movie named "King and the clown." It shows our traditional houses, clothes, food etc. It gives people new perspectives to see differences between two countries. at first they might feel strange but once they are exposed to them and familar, it will be much easier to understand other cultures.
Second, we can learn knowledge about a country's history through movies. Their scripts have a variety of stories and sometimes it is based on historical events. For instance, some Korean movies' background is the time Japan colonized Korea. Even thought movies are fictional, the audiences get background knowledge related to the real history. It is very useful for them to broaden their knowledge about history.
In addition, movies reflect the characters of people. There are so many characters in one movie and they has their own unique personality. Each of them largely seem like to be some general type of people in the country. It is also connected to the trend in movie industry that specitic kinds of movies are popular in the country.
To conclude, people can get to know about a country through movies. In fact, t is hard to travel all countries we want to go and know. So we have several alternatives such as books, pictures, and movies. Among them I am pretty sure that watching movies is the best because it has visual, literal and auditory aspects. |
