Students should take off to travel or work before going to the university |
Importance of continous studying at school has been regarded highly throughout decades. Some people might think that in order to increase efficiency in learning, students should go to college right after the high school. I, however, strongly believe that taking off to travel or work before going to the university will benefit students in many ways. First, traveling teaches students to widen up viewpoints in life. Also, working plays an important role in learning social skills.
To begin with, while on a tour, students can broaden their perspectives in life. Generally, students are bound by hectic schedule, dealing with overwhelming school tasks and achieving their academic goals. Therefore, they are somewhat ignorant of how the society goes around and how big the world is. Accordingly, taking off to travel will assist them to gain knowledge on more specific parts of life and its culture. For example, as an Asian, I was astounded by the way how young Americans interact with the seniors while on a American tour. Unlike Korea, my country, where younsters looking directly into the older people's eyes is being regarded rude while talking, young Americans were talking to the seniors with their eyes directly looking at them. What is more, it was even a shock to me when I saw the younsters putting their arms around the older people's shoulders without putting any distance between them. If it had not been the meaningful travel, I would have never known about how different the culture is in each country.
Moreover, working teaches students how to interact with diverse people. It is widely known that students spend most of their time dealing with friends at school the most. However, unlike the school where it consists of students only, working in a society teaches them to socialize with more different people from all ages and personality. Hence, it is no doubt that working will play an crucial role in learning social skills. For instance, while working at a service call center, students will have a chance talk to a lot of kinds of people with different education background, personality, and a life style. Some might meet people who are being rude to them, or on the other hand, very kind. While socializing with them, the students will learn how to communicate with others, dealing with certain situations, and learn themselves more when it comes to interacting. Therefore, working teaches them how to improve their social skills.
To conclude, students should go on a tour and work before entering the university for the reasons I mentioned above.
