The main purpose for people to have a job is to earn money for their basic needs. Indeed, money is the most important standard when choosing a job. However, I could not deny there is a possibility that people work for other reasons. To name it, people work to accomplish their dreams and gain reputations.
People have a job and work to achieve their dreams. Most of people in the work place have their own goals. It will range from silly things such as going back home early to great goals such as being a C.E.O. Thus, each person try their best to accomplish his/her own goals. To be more specific, suppose one reporter wanted to be a reporter of the United Nations. However, he is currently working in a small publishing company. Despite his miserable situation, he does not give up and make an effort to accomplish his dream. He writes a lot of articles and news to be prepared. In this situation, I believe he is 'working' not for money, but he works for his goals.
Moreover, people want to be honored from many people. Even though some people will deny that they are not the men who want to be famous, people have innate desire to gain reputations from others. In fact, this could be seen in most parts of people's lives. Some people might like to be a nice dresser. They might simply like to wear clothes, but in reality, they want to hear from other people that they are a nice dresser. In addition, 'compliment effects' could fit into this category. This means people have more productivity when they hear compliments from others. In other words, they try their best to live up to other's expectations. By doing that, they know others will consider them as an outstanding man. In this sense, people will work and achieve high results to be famous among workers.
In conclusion, besides earning money, I believe people work to achieve their dreams and gain reputations. However, as matter of fact, most people choose a job for its wage, not other factors. |
