▶ Your Answer : Some people think that people are able to handle with their own problems without governmental aid. However, I strongly believe that it is essential for someone to get a support from government. There are two reasons. First, there are some large-scale issues that cannot be resolved by on a personal level. Second, some people who have insurmountable disparities inevitedly need the country's help.
To begin with, even though people can control some problems up to a certain level, a few fields are in dimension of state. In many countries, each government has a lot of subordinate departments such as a ministry of environment, land or transport. Why are these department set up despite of demanding large amounts of tax? Presumably, they are in charge of uncountable tasks everyday. Suppose a city was suffered from traffic congestion. The government should step forward to ease this traffic congestion with widening a road and so on because a person cannot settle the matters. For example, my aunt does farm work in the country and she has cultivated various kinds of crops. Last year she got trouble with toxic water from a nearby manufactural factory. She had protested against the plant but it was so hard for one person to stand against the large company. Eventually She made a recommendation about the problem to the district office. Before long, the department of environment examined the incident and carried out the environment policy with regulating toxic materials. My aunt also got compensation for the damage of crops. I think that this episode shows a well-treated problem solving on a government scale. On the top of that, the government is under obligation to support the social weak. Any countries cannot help considering the gap between rich and poor or the gap between non-disabled and disabled people. Imagine the country which is aloof to the weak and every person has to make a living individully. Would it possible for the man lagging by nature to survive in the world of endless competition? It is highly doubtful. If the government kept indifferent to the citizen's life, a disparity between a standard of living would be worsened. The only key to alleviate this difference would be the government's involvment to people's life like offering a government subsidy, ensuring lifetime employment or making jobs. A strict tax system is also one of the most essential works to enhance every person's level of lifestyle. For instance, there is a gap between senior citizens and junior citizens among many kinds of disparities. There was a survey conducted by a group of public good majors of Korea university with the senior as respondents. The purpose of the poll was to understand the consensus about financial and physical difficulties in today's society. The majority of respondents replied that they have trouble with getting sick or suffering economic problems. The reasons were mainly concerned with elderly people's unavoidable aging and inoccupation. This surveys proves that some people have problems beyond their control then responsibility to boost them would be in a country. Nowadays, many countries are enforcing many policy for the elderly with exempting transportation expenses or supporting checkup in no charge.
To sum up, taking large scale of issues that have to be solved by departments and the country's duty to support the social weak, government assistance seems to be compulsory. In this regard, I firmly believe that the government is liable to aid the citizens.
