▶ Your Answer : Undoubtedly, expressing one's emotion can positively influence oneself as well as others. We can make our happiness doubled and sadness halved by expressing and sharing each other's emotions and feelings. However, in my opinion, it is wiser not to express one's expressions strongly in front of others. There are some reasons as follows. First, controlling one's expressions helps the person to live in harmony. Basically, we should intermingle with others with different conditions, ages, and personalities in everyday life. In order to avoid misunderstandings, and collisions, possibly originating from these differences, not revealing one's feelings strongly might be better. To illustrate, my ex English tutor, John was a professional, but showed too strong reactions to my results. When my result was disappointing, he yelled loudly, expressing worries. Meanwhile, my good result made him very excited. Though I knew that he cared about my results, the stronger his responses, the more burdensome I felt. No matter how I tried to share his feelings and follow his discipline, my sensitiveness and stress resulting from studies had myself distracted and annoyed by his expressions. In the end, I decided to stop learning from him, and chose another tutor, who is courteous and calm. Although her teaching ability was not as good as that of John, she was able to lead me to concentrate only on my goals. From this experience, I realized that a person's strong expressions and passion could sometimes negatively influence others. Second, people who are able to repress their expressions have more likelihood of receiving good reputations in the office. In this dog-eat-dog , people commonly tend to be emotionally sensitive because of loads of work and stress. In this context, employees showing his or her feelings directly might not only incur other's hatred, but also be considered to be overconfident, regardless their true intention. To illustrate, there are two employees. One employee always expresses his happiness excitingly whenever achieving good results. Though his co-workers might celebrate him, some of them , for example, not accomplishing good results could feel inferior, or jealousy. On the other hand, the other worker works hard silently. In spite of hardly expressing himself's feelings, he cares about others' emotions and opinions first. His attitude even encourages others to be open-minded and consider others , creating good work ship . Then, the latter employee is highly likely to be promoted fast by receiving good reputations among co-workers as well as seniors. Thus, This anecdote implies that controlling one's emotions can gain others' confidence, contributing to success in the office life. As I have mentioned above, controlling one's feelings can help people to live in harmony in every day life as well as to gain good reputations in the office. In these regards, I definitely disagree with the statement that people should always show their emotions strongly. |
