The reading passage explains that how, when and where
dogs started to be domesticated. On the other hand, the lecturer objected to the
points mentioned in the reading passage about the origin of domesticated dogs.
First of all, the lecturer argues the author’s claim
that trained wolves by humans are the origin of dogs is false. As speaker says,
it can be impossible that people trained wolf pups to assist hunting because
the hunting style between wolves and humans is totally different. In addition,
wolves usually get very aggressive as they get older so it would have been too
dangerous to train them. This casts doubt on the author’s claim that dogs
evolved from wolves.
Second, the professor points out that the argument
regarding with the first attempt domestication of dogs is mistaken. The
professor argues the origin of dogs is earlier than 16,000 years ago. This is
because a dog’s footprint was found with a boy’s footprints in a cave, and the
footprints were from 24,000 years ago. This contradicts the writer’s view that
dogs have been domesticated since 16,000 years ago.
Finally, the speaker contends that the opinion concerning
China is flawed. The lecturer argues that the result from research related to
ancient dogs’ fossils prove otherwise. It shows dogs are originated from four
sorts of ancient dogs from different countries. Therefore, this goes against
the writer’s view that dogs’ domestication has started from China because there
are various kinds of dogs which can be seen around the world. |
