▶ Your Answer :There
might be some people who believe that parents should help their children rather
than encourage them in order to make them independent in their schoolwork.
However I personally disagree with the above idea for the two subsequent
reasons; perspective and success. First,
encouraging the children enable them to widen their perspective. While
involving in such self-decision behaviors, children can experience new cultures
and lifestyles that they have not been exposed to. This leads them to
understand various customs and lifestyles, all of which are important with
modern society becoming globalized.
The
perfect example of this is a close friend of mine who are encouraged to be
independent by his parents. His parents decided to encourage my friend to be
independent and allowed him to do many things by himself. He was willing to try
new things as an engineer. Then, one day, he was really surprised by the views
of a religious philosophy club he joined. Their stances on truth were obviously
informed form very different angles: he used scientifically verifiable evidence
to know, but his classmates drew on faith to believe. Through their discussion,
they both had the chance to see philosophical issues from new perspectives.
Since prejudice develop from ignorance, exposing oneself to a new point of view
can help people to be more tolerant other’s opinions and to explore a broad
ranges of areas.
Second,
encouragement can truly make people to succeed because it creates optimal
conditions to get a decent job. In our society, it has become extremely
difficult for individuals to get a good job without a profound knowledge and
in-depth understandings. As there are thousands of rivals in the competitive
world, possessing a various skill sets is tremendously required for one to
succeed. Thanks to encouragement, one can attain diverse experiences and
qualification for the work.
According
to the study conducted by JH, one of the most renowned research center in the
US, encouraging the children has more opportunities for them to get a good job
than helping them. The same study also noted that the former outcompeted the
latter in many aspects such as decision making skills and communication skills.
This indicates that encouragement is much helpful for children than help.
To
summarize what I mentioned above, I am for the notion that encouraging children
is more useful for them since they have more chances to get a great job
position. |
