▶ Your Answer : There are some people who say that
comprehending the past can be a solution to today's problem. They often talk
about the importance of understanding the history, because those events in the
past can reflect today and there is always something we can learn from.
However, I cannot agree with that opinion and there are couple of reasons.First, what we are facing with is far from
what we are used to. In these days, there are several issues that we have to
deal with ; for example, privacy in the internet or climate change. For privacy
problem, there is no similar problem in the past as there was no technology
which could bring this issue. We also have never experienced such a rapid
climate change in the past caused by human being so it is not surprising to fail
to find a solution in the past. So, it can be useless to make an effort to
comprehend the past, because there is no event which can be refer to.
On the other hand, even if we have a same
problem, there are much more things that we have to consider than the past. For
instance, if there is an rise of epidemic, we were able to control our citizens
by evacuating them or sometimes simply burning whole district. But those
methods cannot be applicable today, as we have to consider freedom of
individual or human right. In the past, it is also easier to control the
frontier in the case of such emergency, however, we could not easily shut down
our frontier as there are much more things to consider ; impact on industry,
international political problem or financial disaster etc, which were not
serious concerns in the past.
World has been diversified and complicated
as we made a progress. Now we have more multiplied relations between several
other countries, also in between individuals. That is why recent problems are incomparable
with those of the past. What we have to do to overcome those obstacles in
present is to understand today's world, not looking back. |
