▶ Your Answer :
In the given set of materials, the reading
passage and the lecture deal with sucralose to debate whether sucralose should
be banned or not. The reading passage is providing three pieces of evidence to
prove its point, the lecturer argues against by providing three compelling
rebuttals.
First, the reading passage asserts the idea
that sucralose have a greater risk of developing diabetes because it can
trigger a 20 percent increase in the production of insulin. Furthermore,
studies have shown that people who consume diet soda with sucralose regularly
are more likely to develop diabetes than those who drink regular soda.
The professor cats doubt idea because
sucralose does not trigger such serious diabetes. Also, the test that people
who consume diet soda with sucralose regularly are more likley to develop
diabetes is depend on one's physical condition, not sucralose.
Next, the reading passage claims that
sucralose produce harmful substance when used for cooking. Researchers have found
that once sucralose reaches a high enough temperature, it combines with other
chemicals to create substance known as chloropropanols. Therefore baked goods
of other foods cooked with sucralose have the potential to lead to lasting
health problems for the people who consume them.
The reading passage refutes the idea because
the laboratory test is nor dependable. Even, the chloropropanols which are
created when the sucralose reaches a high enough temperature was not found.
Finally, the reading passage points out
that sucralose can set off intense allergic reaction. Some said that they felt
dizzy and had headaches, while others reported more severe symptoms such as
seizures. Theses reaction are attributed to the fact that sucralose is a
synthetic substance that the body is incapable of processing.
The professor challenges the idea because
there is no evidence to prove it. Also, allergic reaction such as headaches and
dizzy is normal symptoms people can feel everyday. Moreover, people can have
allergic reaction when they consume other foods than sucralose food.
