▶ Your Answer : Some might say that North Americans became too dependent on automobile for travel and others may not. It is an interesting question which answers can be differed depending on individual's personal point of view. In my opinion, I agree to North Americans becoming dependent on automobile for travel for the reasons following in the essay.
To begin with, North America is a massive area for other types of transportation to be effective. People say words like this, "You gotta bring a car to go to a nearby store from your home in U.S". In other words, in my country, South Korea, you can easily walk to a supermarket near your house because the distance is short. However, in America, you must have a car to go to a nearby shop. Considering other transportation, there is nothing as efficient as personal automobile to travel. In comparison, planes are too expensive compared to cars. Trains need many investments on building the infrastructure such as railways. Buses can be a budget choice but you can not select the time to use it as freely as your own vehicle. For these reasons, I believe it is inevitable that North Americans became dependent on their automobiles.
On top of that, I think America's cheap price of oil has also contributed to Americans using automobiles intensively. Regarding the fact that U.S.A has abundant fossil fuels such as shale gas, it is not surprising to see a very low price of oil in gas stations in U.S. In other words, this leads many citizens to conveniently buying their own vehicles and use them. Visitors from other countries tend to ride their cars more than they used to in their home country which can prove the fact that automobiles are such an easy way of transportation to travel in America.
To sum up, I agree that North Americans have become deeply dependent on automobile as a matter of transportation for travel. For the first reason, automobiles are the most effective considering the environment of North America. Second, cheap price of oil has led to people easily using their automobiles more. |
