The lecturer examines advantages of advertisements, taking critical approach to them. On the other hand, reading passage claims that advertisements have several benefits in our society.
To begin with, the lecurer claims that the aim of adversement is only to sell product not to be informative and they sometimes give misinformation to the customers. In addition, they simply make people desire more and more. This casts doubts on the reading passage's claim that advertisements are informative and beneficial to customers, taking the new medicine example.
Second, the lecturer argues that advertisements cost a lot. That means the cost is likely to be transferred to customers. Therefore he thinks that advertisements are not cheap at all, considering the passed prices to consumers. Ths also contradicts the reading passage's argument that advertisements can make people use the media without extra costs because media makes money through advertisement, which leads to the reduced price of information to customers.
Third, he argues that advertisements encourages people to spend more money to the degrees that they can not affford, forcing them to buy everything on credit. Most of all, he claims that this behavior of a consumer will have a negative impact on the national economy because buying on credit can pose dangers to the sound economic transactions. This rebuts the reading passage's assertion that adverstiments can stimulate spending , boost exports, and finally reinforce the domestic economy. |
