More efficient, comfortable and convenient life became prevalent slogans among people. In this sense, it came as no surprise to me that people tend to put more importance on constructing modern buildings for better life than preserving historical buildings. In my opinion, however, it is much more beneficial to protect historical buildings since it could preserve distinct histories and encourage tour industries.
Historical buildings include countries' culture, tradition and past life. The building has its inherent heritage and style since it is built in different methods and motives in accordance with the time. To be more specific, in Korea, there was time when the country was divided into three, which is called Three Countries age. Even though each territory was very small, they had developed their own cultures. One country was full of Buddhist architectures while the other one pursed to erect monuments regardless of gods and their beliefs. Also, the most powerful country called Kou Koo Ryou imported institutions and cultures from China, forming special traditions. By taking the example into account, I believe there is no doubt that historical buildings could provide valuable information of the past time.
Moreover, preserving historical buildings could enhance tour industries. The most important reason for people to have a trip to a foreign country is to experience exotic cultures. They like to see, hear and feel aspects of the country which is distinguishable from their home country. Not to mention historical buildings could satisfy their demand. For example, in Korea, most of foreigners visit Kyoung Book Goung which is Korean castles. In the interview, they mostly mentioned that it has distinctive features. Unlike other castle, it is relatively small, but it is kind of master piece. Delicate designs of roofs, doors and stairs and the place which is in harmony with the environment was very attractive place for them. In this sense, the more foreigners come to certain country to see historical buildings, the more money the country will gain. Therefore, protecting historical buildings is indispensable.
In conclusion, I believe it is preferable to preserve historical buildings when it comes to protection of tradition and encouragement of tour industries. Despite the benefits of modern buildings, putting more values on what ancestors left is much more importanct. |
