If you could change one important thing about your country, what would you change? Use reasons and specific examples to support your answer.
I came to the United States a year ago. When I came here, nothing was comfortable. At that time I was completely confused, but after a few months, I started to see that things are better here than in Korea. I thought that if I could change on important thing in my country, it would be education.
First, to be accepted at a university in Korea only students’ grades count. People believed in my country that students need to have the best grades in order to be accepted at a good university. It does not count whether students have done important things in high school. They could be sports champion or involved in community activities and it still does mot matter.
In America, things are completely different. Grades are important, but students have to prove their personality and show their involvement in social life. In order to be accepted at a top university like Harvard, students must show high academy achievement, but also participation in social life. They need to have been part of some sports team or some community action. I would definitely change university admission system in Korea since the American way stresses out a person’s personality and abilities for a future job.
Second, in Korea students in high school do not have a chance to choose their subject. Every year students have the same classes, and I think that this made them not to study so well. In America, however, students choose the classes they want to study. For example, I take music instead of art because I like music more than art. I take P.E instead of Spanish because I feel more comfortable in the gym.
If I could change education in Korea, I would introduce the American system of choosing the right classes at the right time. I believe that students would study better.
I would with certainty change education in Korea by giving students the chances they deserve.
