제목:It is better to take the most difficult and challenging classes in college or at university even if it means that you probably will not get top grades in them.
In most places in the world, university study coincides with people's entrance into adult life. Students become having responsibility for their own decisions and also have to choose the lectures that they wish to attend. They must give the decision much thought and make sure that they are really interested in studying the courses. However, some students prefer to take the most challenging academic courses even though they are aware of that it is virtually impossible to get good grades in them. As for me, such decision can only be considered as an immature action that college students should never make.
University is an institution of third level education, where it offers great opportunities that students can engage themselves in learning deeper knowledge in a variety of academic fields. Students came to university not only to expand their knowledge in their interested field of study, but also to prepare themselves for their future career. In other words, it is simply a wasteful idea to take an extremely challenging course when such a course has nothing to do with their major or future career. From my personal experience, I took a college mathematic theory course in my freshmen year. I only registered for that course because I thought It would make me look smart. However, since my major did not share any similar materials with the course, I had so much trouble in grasping the lecture. I was not able to complete any assignment, not because I was lazy but only I was not able to understand a word from the instructor. As a result, I failed in final test, and had to repeat the whole year since I did not achieve sufficient grades to finish the year. I wasted both of my time and money because of one single mistake. If I only knew what It would happen before making such a silly decision, I could have avoided repeating another year. In this respect, taking particularly difficult course is not beneficial at all for students.
In addition, It reduces the chance of wining scholarship. There are many financial assistances available for college students. They are mainly for students with outstanding test results except a very few cases that reward on school athletics or other occasions. The most surprising thing of those academic scholarship programs is that the students' grades are treated the same regardless of difficulty of courses. A university simply cannot prove how a course is particularly challenging compared to other courses. Therefore, If a student select the course that require one to learn generally more difficult materials, one is likely to lose the opportunity to gain a scholarship. Since the vast majority of college students greatly aim for such financial supports, they would better not to choose difficult courses.
Simply put, even though students are free to choose courses that they study in university, they must try their best to avoid particularly tough lectures that may leave low grades to students. It is because it will waste their valuable time ,and also reduce the opportunity of wining scholarship due to marking low grades in their tests.
