It is still up for debate whether learning a new physical skill is easier than learning a new mental skill. There may be many reasons why some people disagree with the topic statement. However, my recent experience point out the fact that mental skills are more complicated and harder to acquire than physical skills.
Physical skills are much easier to learn because the only thing I need is a constant practice to master and the level of achivements is shown simply based on how much efforts I put in, to be proficient in that skill. Meanwhile, mental skills require high understanding and thinking abilities. What is more, unlike physical skills, people can hardly realize their improvements when they practice mental skills, which is one of the reasons that makes it more difficult for us to progress.
To illustrate this, my experiences in the institution boslter that my idea is undeniable. During my examination period, I always played basketball as a hobby and leisure to relieve my stresses. I could eventually realize how much I improved when I was playing basketball. Nevertheless, as for the mental skills and activities, I could barely see the improvements even though I spent comparatively more time in practicing mental skills. The invisible improvements will definitely influence the speed of learning, leading a person to slacken his/her learning pace. Therefore, from this regard, I am certain that mental skill is harder to absorb and take longer time to learn than physical skll.
Additionally, every time I work on mental skills such as mathematics, I had to think upon the general equations and knowledge. Subjects like mathematics needs high level of creative and good understanding skills in order to solve the questions, which is quite constrast to just keep practicing regularly. Thus, it is a significant fact that learning a new mental skill is much difficult than learning a new physical skill.
In conclusion, new mental skill is much difficult for us to foster as it demands us to know at least the basic knowledge of the topic I attempt to learn. It also requires high thinking and comprehensive faculty. Last but not least, I could infer from my experiences that in fact learning a mental skill takes up a lot of time to master since the accomplishments in physical skill was visible while mental skill was not. Hence, I strongly agree with the topic statement above. |
