I completely disagree with this opinion that learning about the past is not valuable for those of our living in the present. I think that knowing the past is beneficial for people due to two major reasons. I can mention why it is valuable to people who are living in the present by using appropriate examples.
First of all, people can reduce frequence of trials and mistakes through similar expereinces of the past. There is the saying that the history or the past is the mirror for the present. If a person experienced that he had difficulty to find the right direction on the road he met first in the past, he would probably remember that situation. When he meets that road again, it is easy for him to find the right direction without any problem. That is thanks to the experience of the past. It is so beneficial since he can save the money and time. Moreover, when students took the low grade with wrong answers, he could study harder to improve his grade. In the next test, it is possible for him to take a great grade and to obtain more knowledge and inforamation which can be applied to his life.
Secondly, learning about the past helps people to advance new inventions. In the past, it took people long time to calculate the number because they use only finger counting. They must be numerous mistakes and errors. Repeating the errors, people recognized the need of a tool for exact calculation. In result, the calculators, and then, the computer were invented. As learning the mistakes or trials of the past, people can advance the new tools or inventions. Therefore, it is valuable people know the past for more convenient livings.
In conclusion, I disagree with this statement that learning about the past does not have value for us in the present. When it comes to saving the time and money by reducing the mistakes and a chance for new inventions, I can sya that knowing the past is so important and valuable.
