In this rapidly changing world, there has been lots of controversy over university students should take only their major couse or should take lots of various classes. Although attending large number of courses can provide students with plenty of useful knowledges, I would definitely disagree that students should take many different subjects. The rationale behind this is that the most important priority of university is to prepare for jobs. Furthermore, it's easier to make friends.
To start with, college's first priority is to make students to prepare for their future jobs, so they have to aid students to only concentrate on their major. Since the college is the stage right before entering to the real world, students have to prepare for their future jobs while attending college. One of my best friends, Andy, would be the best example. He specialized in fashion design at the 'Seoul university'. When I saw his class schedule for the first time, I was shocked by the proportion of fashion design classes in one week. He had twelve design lectures and five actual practices in a week. The university policy made him only to concentrate exactly on his major rather than selective subjects like other students do. Therefore, after graduating 'Seoul university', he could enter the world's most influencing fashion design company and has built his own career. As this example demonstrates, in order to live fancy life after graduating university, it is preferable for students to attend a few classes which is related to their major.
In addition, it is much more easier to make friends than attending various courses. This is mainly due to the fact that when students attend less classes they can easily be familiar with other students who is majoring in same subjects with them, so students can easily be good friends. For example, I majored in chemistry while I was in a small college. Since the college was in very small town, there weren't many professors who could teach us. So, I was only able to attend just chemistry all day long. At first, it was demanding process to study with unfamiliar peoples. However, as we attend the same class from day to night, there is no doubt that we would be best friends to each other. Thanks to this situation, I could make lots of friends who will be my life-long friends that I can rely on when I'm in hard time. Consequently, it is easy to make friends when students attend a little number of classes rather than listening to various lectures.
In conclusion, I would strongly disagree with the statement that university students should take classes in many different courses because students have to prepare for their future job by concentrating on one courses. Moreover, it is the easiest way to make lots of friends. On the whole, university students should study hard to achieve their goal. |
