"A, b, c, d or e" will be the most fearful alphabets for students because those are the grades for their exams. In fact, a test itself has a lot of controversies since people might evaluate students solely on a grade. However, having test is necessary for students since they could have efficiency on their working by getting motivations and competitions.
When students have exams, they could have inspiration. This is mainly because of scores and students' desire to be better than others. To be more specific, if students have high scores in their test, they will try their best to maintain high scores. When it comes to students who have low scores, they will strive to keep up with students who have high scores. In my personal experience, when I was in third grade of middle school, I usually had D in my essay exams due to poor writing skills. However, all of my friends had at least B, which was a very embarrassing situation for me. Since I did not want to be behind in scores, I made an effort to improve the skills and at the end, I could follow up my friends' grades. Therefore, exams could give overall benefits to students by giving them stimulations to study.
Moreover, students could have competitions with one another. Teenagers do not want to be a loser because they have strong self-confidence. Thus, when they have a test, they will naturally endeavor to have higher grade than others. For example, according to a study conducted by Korea University, emulations are indispensable for students' education. There were two groups and both were assigned with same subjects. However, scientists told to members of group A that their scores will not be shown to other people while to group B, they said scores will be compared with one another. In other words, people in group A will have fewer rivalries while people in group B will go through relatively strict rivalries. At the end of the survey, both groups had a same exam and the result was amazing. People in group be roughly had 40 percent more scores! Hence, since students could emulate with one another when they have exams, they will encourage students to study harder.
In conclusion, I firmly believe exams are beneficial for students since they could have motivations and competitions. Not to mention that students will review their works as much as possible when they have to take a test. |
