It is debatable whether qualifications for attending higher education level should be limited to students based on their qualities. Some claim that students who poorly attend their schools and fail many classes should not pursue higher levels of education because they might deteriorate class atmosphere and are not able to complete their educations successfully. In contrary, I wholeheartedly believe that all students should have same opportunities to access to the higher education no matter their achievements or qualifications. The rationales behind this are students have freedom to learn in democratic society, and their abilities to do well on higher education cannot be seen from their prior achievements. FIrst of all, students, including every individual in all communities, have own right to express their desires toward higher educations. In other words, according to Democracy’s fundamental theory of giving freedom and rights to all humans, students who have desires of pursing a higher level of education should receive same opportunities to access to it regardless of their abilities. For example, one of my friends could not meet qualifications for attending a university due to his low grades at high school. However, after he moved to US, he was able to get a chance to apply for a two year college. He later argued that his own country should give equal opportunities as In addition, students’ prior abilities and achievements at their high schools do not relate with their successes at universities. That is, although teachers believe that a student has lack of abilities or qualifications for going for higher educations, it is only their opinions but not facts. One of top most illustrations is Einstein. While he was in high school, teachers saw him as an unsuitable person for attending schools. However, he became very famous regardless of his high school achievements. As this example well illustrates, students’ prior information should be not a criterion for pursuing higher educations. In summary, regardless of students’ history at high schools, students should be available for pursuing higher educations. That is because their own decisions and individuals’ rights to learn should be considered first, and their real abilities to achieve higher educations successfully cannot be judged before they enter higher levels. All in all, I believe those who follow their dreams and have passionate goals for higher educations will make excellent scores. |
