After the advent of mass media such as the internet, people were benefited in that they could be provided with information more conveniently. However, utilizing the internet induced many problems. For instance, people deeply ran into data smog. Moreover, searching information on books make people endeavor to find the data they need enabling them to remember it more longer. Therefore, I greatly accede that investigating information through books are more efficient than the internet.
To start off, it is crucial to say that people have fallen in to the data smog amid searching the internet. Data smog is a phenomenon when people can not readily seek what they need due to exuberant and unnecessary information on the internet. Accordingly, people are not able to find their info on time or they occasionally end up seeking false information. In the statistics made by the Seoul National University, it is said that more than 91% of the netizens are unsatisfied with the internet in that they have too much junk sources. I also periodically feel that internet have too affluent storages which are frustrating when it impedes me from finding the right knowledge. Therefore, eluding the data smog by searching the book is necessary.
Second, exploiting the book, which would gradually take more time, will make people to recollect the information more promptly. It is said 'The harder you gain, the more you achieve.' People who find what they need in haste and without effort are more likely to forget this data much quicker. This happening is proved by the researchers who are currently in the Harvard University. According to their experiment, people who searched for their information for more than an hour were 89% more apt to retrospect their datas more efficiently. Furthermore, my mom always stress out to find words on the dictionary and not on the internet insisting that locating words without thriving effort, I will easily forget the word. In this manner, hardship in looking for information would contribute in prolong memorization.
In a nutshell, finding information on books not only furnishes people with the chance to evade the data smog effect, but it also provides people with broadened memory on what they have found. Nevertheless, it is preposterous to say that the internet have no merits. In my opinion, however, it's drawbacks far more outweighs it's advantages. |
