A lot of controversy exists over whether a teacher's ability to relate well with students is more important than give knowledge to students or not. Although teacher's original purpose is convey lots of information to students, I defenitely agree with the statement that relating well with students is significant because it will enable students to study and develop their social skills.
To begin with, teacher's relating skill often force students to study hard. This is mainly because people, especially students tends to put more effort if others motivates and priase them. The best example of this is definitely my math teacher Mr.Kim at high school. He has kind and very generous mind, so he always take care of his class students. Furthermore, he listen to all of his class and his classes are very fun and interesting that even dull students can understand math knowledge. He relates very well with his students and motivates them. Therefore, one of his students was at first got the lowest grade among the students. However, after teacher Kim's constant attention to her, she could enter Harvard University. From this personal experience, I can strongly say that teacher's ability to relate with students motivate them.
Moreover, associating with students would develop their social skills which is essential when they are in the real world. Even though obtaining lots of knowledge and information from teacher is significant, developing social skills, especially talking ability plays important role when students communicate with each other. For instance, one of my friends named Eric, was too shy to stand infront of others and became exclusive even to his parents. However, after meeting college Mrs. Lee at college, he became active and attractive person. His personality has changed thanks to the professors relating skills such as listening to students problems, giving them good advices and making the class more attractive and interesting. Therefore, it is obvious that because the professors try to relate with students, students can develop their social skills.
In conclusion, I would strongly agree that teacher's ability to relate well with students plays significant role in studying more than giving them just an information. The rationale behind this is that it could motivate students to study and develop their social skills. Therefore, I agree with the statement. |
