▶ Your Answer : Some students prefer classes with open discussion, on the other hand, some students prefer lectures with no discussion. This can be an intriguing question and opinions might be varied regarding people's personal perspective. If I were asked which I prefer, I would choose classes with open discussions between the professor and students by following reasons.
First and foremost, collective intelligence takes part in open discussion with other students or professor and lets you understand things that you did not comprehend easily. Although you can figure out certain concept of a lecture by your own, it would take much more time to understand by your own. Likewise, by discussing with others, you can help them too with your strong point and enhance other's weak points. Also, by discussing about a subject or problem together, you can find out the solution in quicker time than studying alone. For example, I had a math class when I was in elementary school which was held in a open discussion style. There were few difficult problems which I think I couldn't have solved alone, but we discussed in groups and tried to figure out the solution step-by-step and each student came up with an idea in each step. Eventually we could reach to the end of the solution easily.
Secondly, discussing with others helps developing skills which you can't learn from just listening to a lecture. By agreeing or disagreeing with other student's point of view, we can learn not only how to work together in groups but also learn how to compromise and make a good solution which can satisfy others. Nowadays, many aspects or skills such as working together, properly communicating with others are more important. By discussing in groups you can acquire skills on how to listen to others, and how to express your own opinion in a suitable way.
To sum up, I prefer classes with open discussion because I think it has more good points than just listening to lectures. First, it can be helpful on reducing time on learning something through help of others. Second, it can support you develop skills like how to work in groups.
