Some people argue that people learn more by reading books than watching television. However, I think that watching television is better to learn more. First, television stimulates people to learn due to interesting contents. Second, image and sound make people learn more effectively.
To begin with, television encourages people to learn more. Of course, when people read books, they might get information more than when they watch TV. However, if books do not encourage people to read and learn more, it cannot be a useful tool. Fortunately, watching television feels motivated to learn. For example, when I was a student in middle school, my mom often told me that I should read books as much as possible. However, It was not interesting and I felt reluctant to read all kinds of books, and thus I could not acquire any information. Fortunately, television made me watch it easily because I can lie on the couch while watching TV. I learned a lot through watching a variety of channels, such as biology, culture, foods, and history. If I had not have watched TV, I could not have get any knowledge.
In addition, images and sound contribute to improving learning efficiency. It is obvious that seeing images and hearing sound is much more effective to learn and remember than reading books and seeing letter. According to the Ministry of Education of Korea in 2009, more than sixty percent of all kinds of students responded that they remember lots of contents of television more easily than just contents of books. The study pointed out that this was because when they watched TV, they used eyes, ears, and brain collectively, emphasizing that it was hard when they read books. In this sense, watching television serves as a desirable way for people to become knowledgeable.
In brief, I firmly believe that we can reap benefits from watching television more easily. Not only can people feel motivated to learn because it is easy to learn, but people also learn more effectively due to images and sound. For these reasons, watching TV should be highly recommended for people to learn more. |
