As the world is globalizing with the exchange of resource, South Korea has put great emphasis on education to compete with other nations due to the lack of nature resource and geographical disadvantage. Gradually, people have been interested in children’s successful school life. Some might say that parents have to be equipped with professional knowledge to lead their children to success in school life. However, I definitely believe that classmates’ roles outweigh those of parents.
First of all, children are more likely to mimic their classmates to be their friend. In school, students are packed with classroom for a long time. Students are exposed an environment to have time with their peers who have similar age, appearance and thoughts. So, it is natural for classmates to replace parents in terms of time to spend. Not surprisingly, children have common attitude because child doesn’t want to be secluded by acting differently. Let me take my middle school friend for example. When I was in middle school, I was so shy that I couldn’t make friends easily. My friend Suji, on the other hand, had affirmative and outgoing personality. Fortunately, she encouraged me to have many friends and study well. Gradually, I was motivated to have good academic performance. As my experience illustrates, the fact that children want to get on good terms with their classmates have a great influence on a children’s successful school life.
On top of that, classmates can have negative effect on child’s school life. Recently, it has been a social problem that many school boys and girls are suffered from group bullying. Korean Times, one of the most prestigious Newspapers in Korea, showed a survey that thirty percent of school children have an experience group bullying. Worse, they thought of suicide. Under this circumstance, parents have nothing to do to solve this problem even though they can help their kid to some extent. Parents are forced to work and their time is limited compare to those of classmates, they can not control group bullying. Not only does group bullying make children distract from study but it also drives children under tremendous stress and depression.
In a nutshell, parents can make their children have good scores in school. However, their impact can not reach to classroom. Children are susceptible to classmates because they share plenty of time together and want to belong together. |
