There is a lot of controversy about whether it is better to preserve a city’s historic and old buildings or not. While some argue that destroying old structures and replacing them with modern buildings has many advantages for citizens, I think that keeping historic building is much helpful for citizens. The reason for this is that we can teach children the history of the city and make patriotism. Also, it is helpful for citizens to preserve many historic and old buildings because of the economy effect of tour.
First of all, we should teach our children the regional history and this can make citizens feel a sense of patriotism and love for their city. Especially, if we conserve our historical valuable buildings, we could easily teach many people our history by showing them. To be specific, according to a recent research by Seoul National University, some people who are raised in a town around many historical valuable structures feel much proud of their town and have a lot of acknowledge about the history of their town than the other people who lived in a modern city without any historical value.
Secondly, preserving historic buildings can cause economy effects on the city by touring. If we preserve our historic buildings, many foreigners and citizens out of the city will come to our city to watch historic, valuable buildings. Therefore, this will cause many economic effects for our citizens. We can replace investment of tourism into preservation of historic assets. For example, France government earns annual billions of Euros by attracting many foreigners through historic assets. This explains an unbelievable value of historic buildings.
To conclude, we have to preserve our historic building because we should teach our children the regional history by showing historic structures as well as we could earn a lot of money by touring. |
