Many people often erroneously think that animals and human is different significantly and thus researching animals does not provide much information about human nature. However, I support the idea that a lot of information on human nature could be brought out from observing or studying animals. The rationale behind this is that human nature has significant similarity to animals in the perspective of both individual and society as a whole.
First, in the perspective of individual, human has same nature with animals. Since human is a type of animal, he has same basic feelings with animals, such as happy, angry, love and so on. To illustrate, recent studies on dogs by researchers from Seoul National University have indicated that dogs has almost same feelings with human to the extent of 95 percent similarity to human’s way of feeling. Except for the research on dogs, there has been many cases where experts have verified some animals such as monkeys, have emotional mechanism same as human’s.
Next, animals’ society has a lot in common with human society. As human has similar way of basic feeling with animal, some characteristics found in animal’s society is shown in the human society as well. For example, the study on ant and its society is well-known for showing how resemble their society is with human’s one in terms of cooperation, organization for surviving their community. Also, latest research on monkeys has shown that their hierarchy system is similar to the one humans has had. Like these, it is clear that some of nature of human’s society could be brought out from researching on animal’s society.
It seems evident that human and animals have a lot in common in terms of the basic nature. This reflects human is a kind of animal eventually, even though human is more special and superior than animals in many parts. |
